England Students produced an improved performance, even though it wasn't enough to prevent France from beating them for the second time this season.

The French had won 41-6 at Twickenham last month and were made to work much harder in Dunkirk's rain-swept Stade Marcel Tribut by a more competitive England pack this time round.

But they still had the edge in pace out wide and dug in to defend their lead for the final quarter of the game.

"It was a disappointing result but a much-improved performance and we hope all the players have learned from the experience," said manager Tony Lanaway.

"We have plenty of positives to build on this season and some good individual performances.

"Durham No.8 Greg Irvin has probably been our stand-out player and Imperial lock Robert Anderson's showing at the age of 19 means he'll be a bonus for us for the next few years."

Fly-half Robin Janisson dummied his way over after England had lost a defensive lineout only three minutes into the game, with Lennard getting the visitors on the board with a 10th minute penalty.

France held a 5-3 lead at the break and increased it after prop Wayne Thompson had been sin-binned at the start of the second half.

Centre Shawn Hegarty added a second try after England spilled the ball going forward and wing Aurelien Sourouille added a third with half-an-hour remaining and added the conversion himself.

"We applied pretty constant pressure in the last 10 or 15 minutes but couldn't get the ball over the line," added Lanaway.

"In the circumstances it was a brave performance but we struggled to contain the pace of their backs."

Five players won their first caps for England at this level. Hartpury's Mark George started in the back-row and Bristol flanker James Lumby, Hartpury lock Steve Pape, and Loughborough backs Toby Henry and Greg Collett all appeared as replacements.

Comment des joueurs de fédérale 1 peuvent t'ils être supérieur à des joueurs du C.O qui évoluent en Top 14.
Il y a aujourd'hui encore du favoritisme dans les sélections et ceci nuit gravement à notre sport.
